Gregorian Chant Workshop in March 2010

Are you a member of a parish choir which sings Gregorian Chant? Are you a choir director who is starting or building a Gregorian Chant schola? Are you familiar with the basics of Chant, but wish to master the Gregorian art? Then this Chant workshop on the weekend of March 12-14 is for you.
Canon Wulfran Lebocq, center

Overview
Under the direction of Canon Wulfran Lebocq, participants will learn the fine points of the classic method of Solemses as taught by the late Dom Joseph Gajard and will sing each day at Holy Mass and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. On the final day, participants will sing at a Solemn High Mass for Laetare Sunday celebrated by Monsignor R. Michael Schmitz.

5th Anniversary of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest in Oakland, California (USA)

This coming Sunday (January 17, 2010), marks the 5th Anniversary of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest at St. Margaret Mary's Church in Oakland, California, USA. It was five years ago, that Most Rev. Bishop Allen H. Vigneron (now Archbishop of Detroit) invited the Institute to the Diocese of Oakland. We thank God for this precious gift of having the Traditional Latin Mass (now known as the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite) available 7 days a week, for the work done by our dedicated priests, Canon Michael Wiener (now serving the St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis, Missouri) and Canon Jean Marie Moreau, and the many graces received through this apostolate during these five years.

A special potluck is now being organized. Donations and any volunteer help will be appreciated. The bar will be sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. One may contact Jean Duenas (jmduenas@comcast.net), Vicki Duenas (vfduenas@comcast.net) or Diana Henriksson (dhenriksson@comcast.net) if you'll be attending or for any inquiries of this special event.

Last year, during the 4th Year Anniversary celebration, Canon Moreau gave us a slideshow presentation of how the Institute started in Gabon, Africa. I thought it might be timely to post this series of youtube videos on the blog for the benefit of those who want to know more about the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest:

2010 Annual Latin Mass Magazine Conference: Surviving the New Kulturkampf

Our friends at Latin Mass Magazine are having their 9th Annual Monterey Conference titled "Surviving the New Kulturkampf" from February 27 to 28, 2010. Here's a short description of the upcoming conference:

From 1871 to 1878 Otto Von Bismarck waged a Kulturkampf (“culture struggle”) against the Catholic in Germany, aimed at destroying all remaining Catholic influence over German social order. Bismarck faced the opposition of a militant Pope, Blessed Pius IX, and courageous German bishops. Today, Catholics in America and throughout the Western world find themselves in the midst of a new Kulturkampf, but with very few (if any) bishops willing to fight against it in any effective way and the Pope unable to dispel the Church’s debilitating post-conciliar malaise. The homosexual movement, Big Abortion, “hate crimes” and “hate speech” laws, ever-increasing government snooping, and looming control of the Internet all threaten the freedom of Catholics to be Catholics in an increasingly hostile society. Our three speakers will address what the Catholic faithful can do to protect themselves and their loved ones in these times that try Catholic souls.

Speakers include:
1) Edwin Faust - Catholic Journalism: A Samizdat for the Faithful
2) Dr. Ronald McArthur - Preserving the Citadel of Catholic Education
3) Christopher Ferrara - Staying Alive and Catholic in the Legal Colosseum
4) John Blewett, Editor

I was there last year, along with Canon Moreau and some parishioners of St. Margaret Mary. Due to our expected first-born baby, my wife and I are unable to make it this year. I hope you VFC readers can make it though!
